Ciao 2012!

It's New Year's Eve in Sydney, and I really should be asleep, but instead my mind is buzzing away with thoughts of resolutions, fresh starts and new adventures. It doesn't help that I had a two hour nap this afternoon (brought on by the colossal sugar crash that comes after cramming in half a Cadburys selection box while watching my man friend play Xbox).
So it's that time of year again, we're all a bit deflated (and possibly a little inflated) now that the Christmas festivities have passed, and we're left looking to the New Year with the kind of bleary eyed hope that we usually reserve for checking our lottery numbers the day after a big jackpot; we don't expect much to change but somewhere inside is a hope that, without actually having to do anything, we're going to Win Big. Or in this case have the Big Year, the year when we lose weight, get fit, save money, change jobs, change our lives etc etc. If you're anything like me you make a list of all the DIY self improvement missions your going to embark on in January. Sometimes it's a mental list, sometimes a real pen and paper one that scare the bejesus out of you when you read it back to yourself and realise how far you are from the person you really want to be.
This year I'd like to say I'm going to do things differently, but I'll still make that list,  how much progress I make working through it is anyone's guess, if previous attempts are anything go by then it'll be baby-steps a lot of the way! But the list does have it's uses, I think a little self auditing every now and then can be a good thing. I like to list the things I've achieved in the past year alongside what I hope to achieve in the new one, sometimes you surprise yourself over he course of a year by doing things you never expected, or changing in ways you hadn't planned. Just because theses things weren't on the New Year's Resolutions list for 2012, doesn't mean they're not worthy of celebrating. So if you've kicked your caffeine addiction or gotten a library card, donated your old clothes to charity instead of hoarding then in hidden suitcases, or just made any positive change in your life during 2012, remember to celebrate that before you start chasing new goals for 2013. You've had a little win!
See you in the New Year folks!
